The fact that these lovely, rugged boats are so lightweight offers several advantages. As a tender, a larger boat can often be accommodated, providing more seating for more people. A smaller outboard motor is needed for the same propulsion, further lightening the package and improving fuel efficiency. They are easier to launch, retrieve, and stow.
Their large pontoons are extremely buoyant, making them safer, more stable, and more capable of carrying heavier loads than other styles of tender. The high pressure makes them feel nice and solid to ride in, but they will not dent or scratch other boats they may bump into.
